The mission of the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA is to provide excellent care, protection and loving compassion for the life of the animals entrusted to us and to take a leadership role in promoting humane values for the benefit of all animals and people.
The Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA (AAWL / SPCA) opened in 1971. The organization was founded by Amanda Blake, who played Miss Kitty on TV's "Gunsmoke", and other animal lovers adopting animals from their homes. Over the last 30 years, the AAWL / SPCA has grown into a full service animal wellfare organization, rescued thousands of homeless animals and provided important humane services to animals and people. The AAWL / SPCA is a private, non-profit animal shelter. All of our funding is through tax-deductible donations or program fees. We receive no government funding.
